Life In The Undergrowth
Season 1 Episode 03 "The Silk Spinners" An exploration of how invertebrates' production of silk 300 million years ago became their greatest invention. Stronger than a steel thread of the same diameter, the material is as pliable as elastic and employed by spiders for rituals including courtship, catching prey and tending young. David Attenborough highlights how some communal spiders create silken palaces rising 15-20 metres up in the forest canopy.
